I recently downloaded pympress, and decided to help with the translation to Portuguese (BR). My question is whether I need to do anything else, besides typing the translations on the website... There are some options, such as export and import... Should I use any of them? Or just type the translations? Also, I would like to know what to do with translations that contain special characters, such as "_"

It should be sufficient to "just" translate the strings.

How to handle "special characters" depends on the character itself. An underscore as mentioned by you declares the following character as the keyboard shortcut for this option.

Ok, but what do I do with those that don't have the shortcut letter in the translation? For example, Open has the translation "Abrir", which doesn't have the letter O to serve as a shortcut... Even those that do, should I translate and put the underscore or just write the translation of the word?

You usually want to follow the common shortcuts for your language and thus place the underscore where it fits accordingly, while trying to avoid duplicate shortcuts.
