does somebody want to host it to try beating google (if it succeeds it would be really funny!). and if possible on the same url.
we need to find someone who wants to host it and make it be like bing, google ect. (for use for real). would be funny for sure: an complete opensource search engine

Yeah honestly, that sounds like a great idea! The project’s already really cool definitely needs a bunch of optimization, but it could turn into an awesome open-source search engine. Hosting it and trying to go up against Google (even just for the laughs) would be hilarious. Would be super cool if we could keep it on the same URL too.

Buying a domain name isn’t an issue — this project can easily attract plenty of sponsors.

But for now, the use case is mainly for exploration and fun. How can this compete with others? I mean, Perplexity aims to align as a solid search engine, and the innovation, changes, and use of models there are just fascinating to see.

Are there any plans to turn this into a strong engine? I genuinely can't think of how this could scale for real-world use cases.

I wonder how much resources it's gonna take.
Like a domain isnt an issue at all, porkbun has really cheap domains.
The problem is there's no way a normal vps is gonna be able to store all pages and images it crawled from the internet, and it'll grow daily.
Not even sure about whether 2TB is enough to hold 2 years amount of data.
