I am wondering if you could help me build the energy meter or build it for me if provide you with the parts and some reward :)
Some background, Im living close to Copenhagen, have the same energy providerand would love to measure my consumption in HA. Whilst I am into these kind of projects am I a bit intimidated to try this one, I don't fully understand the schematics and have a hard to visualizing it.
My energy meter is also out of a possible external power supply and I believe your approach is hence the best/ the only one feasible.
Either way, thanks a bunch for write up and effort!

I am glad you like the project, I myself found many hours of fun doing it.

I can try and support you in building the data logger, but you do need some basic knowledge about soldering, electronics HW and software and I can't guarantee success.

I haven't tried it but apparently it should be able to do the same as some of the HW I have made, - although with a wired interface it seems. But maybe it would be worth investigating it in order to reduce some risk.

I think I will give it a shot and if it fails, I will likely learn something and had some fun.
I have a decent solder iron and have had other projects where I got to work on my solder skills. I build an external water cooling system for my pc with a radiator that hangs on the wall, 2 pumps and some fans. For that I had to make a cable to get ground, 5v, 12v from my PSU to the pumps and fans and get USB data from them back to my mobo. And it worked! Even though I fried a PSU when I tested the voltage/ cable and accidentally touched the pins of the plug whilst looking at the voltage meter hehe. Long story short the risk, of course is all on me and will be careful to not shorten the power meter.
I will make a shopping list of the parts and maybe you can double check it. Otherwise I will try to bother you as little as possible and see how far I get but please let me know if it is a hassel.

That is fine with me.
Just remember that this project will make it possible to publish all the topics from the power meter to a MQTT server.
So you will also need a MQTT server like Mosquito and a database like Influx in order to visualize the data. These can be found and configured in the cloud, pt. for free (with certain limitations). Or installed on e.g. a Raspberry Pi at home for free, no limitations.
Below you can see my setup for visualization, running locally on a RPi 4.

I am actually using Mosqito already as a broker for my zigbee2mqtt dongle and devices. Originaly I also started on a pi4 but than build a bigger pc to host more containers, trying to self host as much as I can. I plan to integrate it into Home Assistant to log and track it in there. But its quite a coincidence and also thanks to you for pointing me to Watts, due to that I stumbled upon this site: https://smarthjemmet.dk/2023/09/watts-live-ind-i-mqtt-og-home-assistant/ where they integrate the Watts reader into HA and there is currently a rabatt which drops the price from 500kr to 199kr. This seems like a good deal and I think ill go this route for now. If that one fails I will build it myself but for now this is the plan. Once I connect the Watts reader to MQTT ill block its WAN access in the router so it does not talk to cloud and stays within the network.
