Description
What is the context of the feature/improvement?
Currently the behavior of the Remix tools/capture system takes a snapshot of the user’s rtx.conf at the time of capture. This is highly problematic, because it means any adjustments made to the rtx.conf in the future aren’t being applied to your capture.
Please describe the feature/improvement?
The following scenarios may occur when working on your mod and altering your rtx.conf:
Adjust the fog setup, in the toolkit you won’t be able to accurately configure the lighting. If you adjust tonemapping, you can’t get an accurate impression of how new materials will look in-game. If you adjust texture assignments, they’ll mismatch with whatever you have set up in your mod’s overrides.
Currently the only way to overcome this mess is by taking a brand new capture even if it’s of the very same content. This either floods the capture directory or requires careful deletion of different captures to stay reasonably organized.
What would be your solution? (optional)
The RTX Remix toolkit already references the game directory to find the captures relevant for your mod project. Have it do the same with the rtx.conf. The toolkit should always be using the rtx.conf as it exists at that point in time in the user’s game directory to ensure visual consistency and no room for error when it comes to authoring lighting/textures based on what you see within the toolkit.
