Home Assistant used to use the sections view --ha-view-sections-row-gap for the column padding on mobile displays, which is set to 18px in the theme and causes this larger vertical padding. But it looks like they've added a new variable --ha-view-sections-narrow-column-gap which I can use instead to add the mobile vertical padding. This should reduce this top gap to the default HA height.

Try theme version 5.0.5. The gap still looks bigger because the top app bar is taller (56px vs 64px) and it's the same color as the view background, but it's technically the same size as default now..
