[Q&A] Is MiniNODE V2 compatible with ESC FLAME 60A V2.0 ?

I'm currently using MiniNODE v2 with ESC FLAME 80A V2.0, and it works perfectly for getting RPM from the ESC. However, I have a new project in which the UAV is smaller in size. I intend to use the T-motor ESC Flame 60A V2.0 instead of Flame 80A V2.0 with MiniNODE v2. Is it compatible?

Hello,

I'm afraid I can't guarantee compatibility with Flame 60A 2.0. While the feedback may work similarly, some scale coefficients or the message format could be different or it might not have feedback at all. I haven't tested it.

Also, please note that a user recently reported an issue with a newer revision of ESC FLAME 80A, even though the previous version works fine. It seems that something has changed in the new firmware or hardware.

By the way, I've got news that T-Motor now offers ESCs with native CAN/DroneCAN support. For a new application, you might be interesting in considering them. I've found this spec:

@PonomarevDA Thank you for your reply. I already have a VL-Series ESC motor, but we have discovered certain issues with its reliability and safety (not only for our company). So, for at least one year of production (or until our team proves that this product is secured), we decide to use the FLAME series, which has been proven for many years. However, we still require RPM and the online status of the CAN for use with our pre-flight and in-flight health check systems.

@PonomarevDA Hello, I recently purchased the latest FLAME ESC 80A V2.0 for fixed-wing motors, and I discovered that the mini v2 node cannot communicate with the ESC because there is no current, RPM, or related data (uavcan.equipment.esc.Status). Is it aware of the issue, as you previously mentioned?

The VL Series, which is meant for VTOL mode, functions properly; unfortunately, there is no ESC-Motor DroneCAN available for fixed-wing cruising mode. That is why I use FLAME ESC and the Mini v2 node.
