ERR_SOCKET_TIMEOUT when installing the Amplify CLI

Just in case somebody runs into the same situation:

It seems there's some issue with NPM versions >= 8.3.1. Using those versions, trying to install the Amplify CLI might result in an ERR_SOCKET_TIMEOUT. See npm/cli#3078

On macOS, I was able to npm install -g @aws-amplify/cli by downgrading to node@14.

Maybe this information will save other people some time.
