cannot connect step counter and heart rate sensor

Hi,

I tried to connect 2 devices to the app. First the build in step counter of my phone, fairphone4. Second a ant+ \ Bluetooth heart rate sensor, sigma.

Both didn't succeed. If it should be possible do you have a description of the steps I have to make for success? Or what info do you need to research this problem?

To connect sensors: In AAT: Preferences -> General/System -> Scroll down to "Sensors".

Step Counter needs permission "access body sensors" enabled. Its somewhere in the Android Settings for this App

Heart rate sensor: The reference HW I have used to implement and test this was "BBB Bluepulse+ Heart Rate Sensor BCP-62DB" . Devices that are compatible with the standard "Heart Rate Service (HRS) for Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)" should be supported.

ANT+ is not supported.

I do not use AAT with external sensors anymore so I do not know what devices work and how good they work.

My bluetooth 5 chest strap works fine with other apps. In AAK it's listed in the list below "Connect to enabled sensors...". When I click the checkbox next to the device a check mark appears for a split second. The sensor does not work.

Same here: on a Fairphone 3+ (Android 13) and with a Sigma R1 Duo (Ant+ / BLE heart rate monitor) AAT can find the device but it fails to connect to it. The sensor does work on my phone when using https://github.com/jonasoreland/runnerup or https://gitlab.com/44100Hz/Pulsar. I'll try to see if from the other two implementations I can give some pointers as to what it would take to get this sensor to work with AAT.

The Pulsar app uses another library for handling the BLE connection: https://github.com/Beepiz/BleGattCoroutines so that's a very different approach.

The Runnerup app seems to follow a similar approach by relying on android.bluetooth.BluetoothGatt: https://github.com/jonasoreland/runnerup/blob/master/hrdevice/src/org/runnerup/hr/AndroidBLEHRProvider.java. It seems that this implementation contains more lines of code and functionality compared to AAT, but I have zero experience with handling BLE in a Java/Android environment so not sure were to start.

I've tried with the debug apk file from https://github.com/MaxKellermann/AAT/actions/runs/20457455616 (installing the release results in package appears to be invalid) but the BLE hart rate monitor was not found by AAT unfortunately.
