When trying to upload to EV3, brick is not found

I think I installed everything correct, however my EV3 is not recognized when trying to upload a compiled file to the brick. I get the following message:

Error uploading (code=5)
EV3 not found. Either plug into the USB port or pair over Bluetooth.

It is plugged in the USB port. Do I need a special firmware to have it communicate with Eclipse? Tried 1.09E and 1.10E - both with the same result.

Are you on Windows, Linux or Mac OS? If you are running Linux, you need to add a udev rule for the EV3. Also you could try to run the ev3duder from Terminal as root and check if it still doesn't work.
If you are an windows, did you use the installer or did you install everything manually?

Also did you confirm that the ev3 is recognized by the OS? Device manager on windows or lsusb on linux

Does it connect when you use official LEGO software and if so, can you try to close the other software or prevent it from interferin
