fog-aws gem is still a requirement?

I've replaced the fog-aws gem with carrierwave-aws, it works locally but on production seeing

/usr/src/app/vendor/bundle/ruby/3.4.0/gems/carrierwave-3.1.1/lib/carrierwave/storage/fog.rb:70:in 'CarrierWave::Storage::Fog.eager_load': uninitialized constant Fog (NameError)

CarrierWave::Storage::Fog.connection_cache[fog_credentials] ||= ::Fog::Storage.new(fog_credentials)

Is presence of the fog-aws gem still a requirement so carrierwave itself doesn't error like this?

To clarify - not only have i replaced the gem, i've configured carrierwave to use carrierwave-aws and that fully works until i push to production then that error occurs during the build/server boot process.
