Default OCR language setting ignored in Papermerge 3.5.3 (always falls back to "deu")

Hello,

I’m running Papermerge 3.5.3 with the official Docker images.

Problem

Even if I set the default OCR language to "fra" (both via environment variables and a mounted /etc/papermerge/papermerge.toml), every new document is still processed with deu as OCR language.

What I did

• Mounted config file /etc/papermerge/papermerge.toml in the webapp container:

default_language = "fra"
languages = { fra = "Français", eng = "English", deu = "Deutsch" }


Verified inside the container that the file is present and correct.

Restarted webapp, worker, redis.

Yet, all new documents still show OCR Language = deu and OCR quality is poor (lots of diacritics warning).

Worker itself has fra available (tesseract --list-langs shows fra).

Expected

When default_language = "fra" is set in the config file, new documents should be OCRed in French.

Actual

All documents are still processed with deu as default OCR language.

Notes

Tested both with PAPERMERGE_OCR_DEFAULT_LANGUAGE env var and config file.

Confirmed that fra is listed in LangCode in /core_app/papermerge/core/features/tasks/schema.py.

Confirmed that worker can OCR French if called directly.

It looks like the webapp is ignoring the default language setting and always falling back to "deu".
