Stream from webserver with RGB565?

Hello,
I just discovered that I have a camera sensor that does not support JPEG compression.
Could someone help me get the “SimpleWebCam.py” example running with RGB565 as the pixel format?
I assume I would have to convert the stream to JPEG somehow.
I would be grateful for any advice.

Here's my current status:

I've added

import jpeg

encoder = jpeg.Encoder(
    width=160,
    height=120,
    pixel_format="RGB565_BE",
    quality=35
)

# Cam Config
cam = Camera(frame_size = FrameSize.QQVGA,pixel_format=PixelFormat.RGB565,init=False)

an in handle_client this:

while cam:
                frame = cam.capture()
                if not frame:
                    break

                jpg = encoder.encode(frame)

                client.send(b'--frame\r\n')
                client.send(b'Content-Type: image/jpeg\r\n\r\n' + jpg + b'\r\n')

I somehow works, but sometimes I still get

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "", line 19, in
OSError: Failed to capture initial frame. Construct a new object with appropriate configuration.

And it seems to be browser-dependent:
With firefox I have to open the URL http://IP/stream
in other browsers it is working with http://IP
