ROOT plotting "Error in plot string or cut string!"

Hi again,

I can't get plots to show. I run the included cobalt-decay.sim as shown in your youtube video and when I type "posx" or anything else as a plot string I see the yellow warning triangle with the text "Error in plot string or cut string!". I suspect my ROOTSYS is not setup correctly. I've tried it as just "/" and as my actual ROOTSYS which is "/home/emil/myinstalls/root/build" that is a ROOT 6.18/02 build. I can't see any more error information but if I start Simple from a terminal I get this crash which has some ROOT error.

Hi,
You don't need to have ROOT installed on your system. Simple comes with ROOT packaged with the appimage. Just to make sure that your system ROOT is not conflicting with Simple's, could you please run Simple after removing all ROOT variables (for example, ROOTSYS) from your system and let me know if it works?

Also, which appimage are you using Ubuntu 16 or 18?

Ok I've disabled my own ROOT installation and it's still giving the same "Error in plot string or cut string!". The new terminal output is here and the last three lines are after pressing enter in the plot string input field.
I'm using Simple-Ubuntu-16.04-x86_64.AppImage but my Ubuntu is 18.04.

Hi,
Yes, I can confirm this. The problem is the packaged version of ROOT is 6.10 has some problems with Ubuntu 16. I have released a new appimage with ROOT 5.34 at https://github.com/deepaksamuel/simple/releases/tag/v.9.1 but have not tested extensively. Please try it out and let me know if it helped.

That works great for me on Ubuntu 18.04 thanks :) ! Still get some errors in the terminal (here) but the plots show and behave as expected. I'll continue testing, really enjoy Simple so far.
