allround-pc.com - EasyList issues #589

Description

Hi there,

I’m Marcel, Editor-in-Chief at allround-pc.com. Our team recently noticed that some EasyList rules appear to be hiding key parts of our website that are essential to the user experience. Specifically, we’ve seen the following unintended effects:

  • Price links in our product reviews and comparison articles are being hidden, which leaves visible gaps in the text and makes the content confusing to readers.

  • Buttons containing affiliate links are also being blocked, even though these links are clearly disclosed and non-intrusive.

  • Articles labeled as “Anzeige” (Sponsored) (e.g., deal posts, giveaway announcements) are being removed from our homepage. We are legally obliged to mark certain content as advertising, for example when we have been invited to events and the travel expenses have been paid by a company.

  • Registration for the newsletter is also blocked

  • In addition, images that load preview images from YouTube for videos via our server are also blocked. Here, our REST API acts as a proxy to protect the data of our website users. These images load via URLs such as this one: allround-pc.com/wp-json/apc/v1/youtube/image/proxy/UU7Zhf7ojEu4Nv2GXxT5Smeg/i.ytimg.com/vi/BgUGWUpsHTw/maxresdefault.jpg/?v=2.0

  • Our survey system for our users also works via the REST API and is no longer functioning. URLs such as these are used: allround-pc.com/wp-json/apc1/v1/survey/nonce or allround-pc.com/wp-json/apc1/v1/survey/.../vote/...
None of these elements are ads in the traditional sense — they are informative, transparent, and provide added value to our readers.

  • The price information and affiliate buttons help users quickly find recommended products, while deal posts and embedded videos are integral parts of our editorial and multimedia content.

We fully appreciate the work EasyList does to make browsing safer and less cluttered, but in this case, it seems the filters are affecting legitimate and user-focused elements. We’d be happy to provide more details, screenshots, or examples to help get this resolved.

Thanks for your time and consideration,

Marcel
