NotReadableError on Samsung devices

Hello,

our customers reported problems with Samsung devices, e.g. Samsung Galaxy S24, since a recent OS update. For some cameras Quagga.init() keeps running into the following error "NotReadableError: Could not start video source". We were able to reproduce the error in our tests on a real Samsung A54 and several other Samsung devices (e.g. S24) on Browserstack.

I have put together a minimal repro on Stackblitz

I also tried using QuaggaJs instead of quagga2 in my minimal repro and encountered the same issue.

Many of our customer encounter the same problem since a recent update on Samsung devices.

@ericblade Any ideas what the cause of the problem might be? Any tips how we might workaround it?

I was getting exactly this same error on PC, just a couple of days ago, with cameras that were physically not available, but for some reason still in the device list (for some reason, I have a camera device listed for every kind of Meta headset, and I'm not sure why, attempting to assign Quagga to it in browser results in this error) ...

so.. in my case, it was because there was no camera to actually open.

Possible that the camera is locked out by another browser tab or another phone application that is running? Possible that the camera selected is somehow not available to be used?

Might try the example https://ericblade.github.io/quagga2/examples/live_w_locator.html and see if it comes up with a valid camera selection...
