That is the only work I am aware of off the top of my head. Keep in mind that the referenced work was 2003, 22 years ago, and there have 1000s of changes to the FDS source code since then including many changes to how wall friciton is dealt with and the treatment of flow around edges and corners. The specific fan model created by Steve in 2003 may not be the best approach in 2025. You may need to play with inputs. HVAC was not available in FDS at the time of Steve's work. In princicple you would be better using HVAC as it would not add mass like a VENT would; however, if the PPV fan is outside a structure and being used just to flow air into the structure, then that is probably not an issue. |

I am a firefighter in Japan. I am currently trying to reproduce PPVfan using FDS.
The two PPVfans actually used at fire scenes are as follows.
I tried to replicate it based on a paper published by NIST, but I was unable to do so successfully. (https://www.nist.gov/publications/characterizing-positive-pressure-ventilation-using-computational-fluid-dynamics)
Is there a better method?
Should I use VENT or HVAC?
If there is any prior research available and you could provide the data, I would greatly appreciate it.
