The list of locations / co-ordinates is shared with all trees.

An editor could see the locations in another (private) tree, or update the locations in another (private) tree.

So, I think that this feature must remain admin-only.

I mean this (the place hierarchy, last image), where to edit (not the control panel edit). I do not see places of other (private) trees and even when and there are no coords entered, input should be possible (imho).

When an editor can create a new place, the change of location coordinates should be possible too.

Yes, the place hierarchy is public. But the pencil icon on the sidebar is only shown to administrators because it is the role of the administrator to curate the hierarchy of places and manage data which is shared across trees and not part of GEDCOM structures, such as place coordinates, supplying them with a bulk CSV import etc.

Is this something you really want for yourself?

I thought it could be a simple matter of allowing also users with Editor role, checking on another level of authority, but it is not so simple. The url it links to is /admin/map-data/edit/${place_id}?.... Every route with prefix /admin/ is only accessible to administrators, and that is heavily guarded. So for an editor to get this functionality in the appropriate way as well needs duplication of quite a lot of files, to supply a copy out of the Admin's domain.

And then it still is missing an approval proces, audit logging (who changed what when) plus I share the view that there might be privacy concerns, possibly even for data within one tree. So it is imho for good reasons this function is admin-only.

From me also a plus one: bad idea, won't implement.

Sorry Bert,
I can't follow your arguments.

1. I do not want to change the function of csv-import of coords. That is for admin only and has to stay there.
2. I do not need that function for myself. Why do you think?
3. Having the function of edit only for admins is simply a decision of Greg and his implementation.
4. URL admin... : move the function of edit coords for a place away from admin, there is no need to have it there.
5. You can enter coords within the gedcom. Why should that be restricted in Gregs extension? (You can attach the edit right there, if you like.)
6. Nearly all tags, if configured, can be edited by non admins, that is simply coding, why not this one?

This is all because places and their locations are not first-class objects in GEDCOM, shared across trees, and that is not going to change soon.

I'll read that in a positive way: you think others might be happy with this ability. Then lets see whether others see it like that as well. So I've done a quick search here and in the forum, but could not find any support or other similar request. Which might change... but I hope you understand for the moment I'm not spending any more time on this.
