Description
Problem Statement
To prevent (unnecessary) usages of the quota's set in Sentry, Sentry allows you to configure usage notifications (Both "Subscription consumption" and "Pay-as-you-go consumption").
This settings is a fixed percentage of the total monthly quota.
When we go over the set percentage (80% by default) close to the end of the billing period, then you get a notification that "Errors have consumed 80% of its monthly budget".
This can create alert fatigue.
Solution Brainstorm
Base the alert on forecasting. Since the number of events fluctuate, it could well be that going over 20% in the first days is a bigger issue than going over 80% in the last days.
Google, for instance, let's us configure the alerts based on forecasting:
A second improvement that could be made is stating the number of day's left in the notification. I mostly assume the billing cycle starts on the 1st of the month. Apparently ours starts on the 17th. So the alert could also be dismissed because the reader thinks "oh, it's almost the new billing cycle", while it isn't.
The billing cycle is noted in light text in the e-mail, but it might read better if the notification was something like "consumed 80 % of budget with X days left."
