A new Linux distribution focused on Win32 and WINE applications was announced. Originally called "Loss32" (antonym of Win32) but maybe changing its name to "Win32 plus Linux".

A full Wine stack running on Linux sounds interesting. But as they say over at loss32.org, they've already got Wine running on Debian 13 Linux. What they're looking for is seamless integration with Wayland, a better explorer.exe, and fixing up gnarly details of the GNU/Linux desktop to work well with Wine. All that is way, way beyond anything the tiny Win32 API Microwindows brings to the table. But thank you for mentioning it!

I saw this also. I can see some potential.
One maybe alternative idea is to have a desktop in an application. You launch an app (Nano X) that has a desktop and start menu inside of it. So it is like a portable desktop with your own customization like desktop wallpaper etc. You can have your private funky retro desktop dedicated to your funky retro stuff! :)
