You can run /gsd:new-project and when gsd asks you what you want to build, just paste in the spec. Works like a charm. |

I have a similar but slight different situation - I already have a template repo with my tech stack and best practices defined. How can I start a new project / repo from this template repo and apply GSD (using ClaudeCode)? |

Just clone your template repo to a new folder for the new project. Then run /gsd:new-project It should auto map the codebase with what you have from the template repo. As you work with GSD through the workflow, or at any step really, inform it about your template repo and things you have set up already. |

In my opinion, this is a really good way to start a new project with GSD. I usually begin with a CLAUDE.md file and let Claude Code generate the first version using /init. If it’s not already included (usually it is), I add the tech stack and best practices there. Then I run /gsd:codebase to analyze my codebase. I review the generated documents, but they are usually quite good. This state then becomes my new template, by the way. At this stage everything is still template-focused, not yet specific to the new project. That gives you a solid starting point - and then /gsd:new-project. |
