When running /gsd:discuss-phase 1 I don't get any opportunity to answer questions - they appear to be automatically answered

yes I am running into the same issue. I was hoping it was just a problem in 1.21 and when I can finally update, this clears up. I can't because of the 1.22 bug that breaks if you have dsg installed locally to the project. That problem may be fixed already. I will say if you see this happening and hit escape to stop it and then basically tell claude something like, "Hey you are running through the discussion again without getting my answers stop doing that and discuss the phase properly", it does fix itself. Sometimes you need fight with it a little to get it on track but it seems not matter what it is screwing up the discussion. I even prompted it before hand to say make sure you don't do this and the AI said it wouldn't and did it anyway lol.

I’m experiencing the same issue, but I can work around it like this:

I cancel the dialog with Esc and say, “The questions are not coming through, please send a test question so we can confirm.”

Answering a working questionnaire during the normal discussion phase seems to normalize the behavior.

While waiting for a fix, I added a safeguard in claude.md

AskUserQuestion Resilience

When using AskUserQuestion and receiving empty answers (no selections returned), retry once more. If the second attempt also returns empty answers, abort the current workflow and explain to the user:

"We're having communication issues — the interactive prompts are returning empty responses. Please check your Claude Code UI or try again in a new session."

Do NOT proceed with empty/default values. User input is required.

This problem is really a Claude Code problem: anthropics/claude-code#29674
but can be patched on GSD side. PR open #929.
