Thanks for reporting this issue. The example app builds successfully on both iOS and Android, so this appears to be a configuration issue rather than a library bug. NitroModules requires native code compilation which can be slow or hang without proper configuration.

Also please try react-native-nitro-sound@0.2.9 as well which has new nitrogen version.

Android - Quick Fix (Most Common Issue)

The main cause is insufficient JVM memory for Gradle. Add this to your android/gradle.properties:

# Increase JVM memory for NitroModules native builds
org.gradle.jvmargs=-Xmx2048m -XX:MaxMetaspaceSize=512m

# Speed up development builds - only build one architecture
reactNativeArchitectures=arm64-v8a

# Enable build optimizations
org.gradle.parallel=true
org.gradle.caching=true
org.gradle.daemon=true

# Required for React Native
android.useAndroidX=true
newArchEnabled=true
hermesEnabled=true

Clean Build Steps

If still stuck, try a clean build:

• ✅ React Native >= 0.79 (0.81+ recommended)

iOS - Build Issues

If you're experiencing slow builds on iOS:

Quick Fix

1. Clean derived data:

rm -rf ~/Library/Developer/Xcode/DerivedData
cd ios && pod install && cd ..

2. Increase Xcode build system threads (Xcode Preferences → Locations → Derived Data → Advanced → Custom)

3. Use Rosetta on M1/M2 Macs if needed:

arch -x86_64 pod install

Common iOS Issues

• CocoaPods installation hanging: Run pod install --repo-update
• Swift compilation slow: First build is always slower due to module precompilation
• Xcode indexing stuck: Clean build folder (Cmd+Shift+K) and rebuild

I can confirm that version 0.29.0 of react-native-nitro-sound fixed the build errors on Android (running react-native version 0.81.4). I will try it on iOS too and get back with the results, thanks @hyochan for the awesome work 🔥 🔥

1. React Native 0.82 is New Architecture only - The newArchEnabled=false flag is ignored in 0.82+
2. Gradle 9.0+ is mandatory - RN 0.82 will not build with older Gradle versions
3. NDK 27.1.12297006 is auto-installed by React Native
