I told in another thread that the idea outlined here requires connecting a few “dots” from very different areas, namely biology, sociology and computer science. Among the possible options mentioned there, I would categorize myself as a “programmer fascinated by sociology”.
The reason I’m “fascinated by sociology” essentially boils down to the fact that I’ve always been autistic throughout my life (although I’ve only fully embraced this a few years ago). Before that, I was always wondering how I could be apparently smart and continuously discriminated at the same time? This led me to the desire of understanding how humans and human societies work.
In this quest, I tried a lot of different approaches. I tried religion, mysticism, conspiracy theories and Chinese martial arts (I also studied the language, and liked it). I engaged with a new-age sect for a few years, where I made friends with a few successfully recovered heavy drug addicts. I also met there a few people who believed to have overcome serious illnesses, but later suddenly died. I made a PhD in mathematics, and worked in a professional scientific institution for 5 years, combining this all with interest in conspiracy theories and engagement with the new-age sect. I later worked in international technology companies, and made it to the latest stages of Google technical interviews twice. It turned out, that among all the approaches I tried, the only method which actually worked, was the scientific one.
It’s been a history of failures, and a single long dive into what they call an “autistic special interest” of understanding how humans work. And now that I finally know the answer, and can at last be myself and do what I want, it has suddenly occurred to me that these dots actually connect in this way described here.
