As gptel has made working with LLMs so easy (switching, tools, track-media, ...) I would like to use these features in other workflows I have, where gptel + emacs would only come in as a tool themselves.
To give a more concrete example:
I often have to compare two files in a folder, but only for a certain subsection in the file.
The subsection itself contains a table and in the end results I want to present the user with a table that contains only the diffs of the tables provided by the two files...
why gptel?
with gptel I can experiment what is the best prompt, model, and so on... all interactively and very quick. that is where it really shines (at least for me, who may not has grasped all the other things yet)
so what is missing?
once I have come to a conclusion what works best with gptel for the example above (2 input files + prompt + preset)
I would want to execute the whole bunch as a shell script from the command line, so in this case
the output would be a table (e.g. orgmode) in temporary file that
I can ingest in any other program to continue to process.
In case anyone has a good starting point with simple examples to build upon, that would be very helpful.
In case anyone has an idea how this could be made even quicker, e.g. by using emacs macros + gptel commands, please also let me know.
As you may have noticed by no, lisp is not my strength, so the less of it is necessary (I am willing to learn) the better it may be for anyone loving emacs and gptel to use all those great features by outsourcing parts to gptel and then continuing in the programming language one feels at home.
Many thanks for gptel, it simply is amazing!
