For invidious self hosters...

Switching between a public host name and a direct private IP address when phone is connected to a specified SSID.

For anyone like myself wanting to minimise traffic via their public hostname (for whatever reason) and be able to have it connect directly and automatically to self hosted instances of invidious.

I used to have my local IP and my public hostname as distinct servers in my app which can be a pain to switch between every time you disconnect from wifi

To get around this tedious process I have 2 work-arounds you may consider:

easy: setup tailscale so you can easily vpn to your local network on your mobile phone, so you can just stay connected to your local instance... added benefit of privacy from your ISP and access to your local network. I also run several tailscale containers through Gluetun so I have the option for VPN through tailscale (if you dont feel comfortable setting that up tailscale also has a built in option with Mullvad)

harder: run pihole for local dns and on your home network and set your home DNS to your local ip of your server. this gives you the ability to stay connected to your server at your public url universally but while on your local network not go through the internet.
