Hard crash when closing laptop lid while external monitors are attached via USB-C

I have a Lenovo T14s notebook with no dedicated graphics card. Two external monitors are attached to it via two separate physical USB-C ports on the notebook. The monitors work, but when I close the laptop lid, the cinnamon screensaver often hard-crashes:

It's nice that the message gives instructions, but the system becomes completely non-responsive at that point, none of the hotkeys do anything and I have to hard-reset the notebook (which also means that I lose all unsaved changes in all open files in the process).

This is a rather serious issue, to the point where I'm considering a distro switch.

Steps to reproduce

• Attach external monitors via USB-C
• Close laptop lid
• Pray

Expected behavior

Desktop continues to function normally

Exact same thing happened for me.

• External monitor attached via USB-C
• closed laptop lid
  Then got that exact error, however, my desktop didn't continue functioning normally, for some reason, the home directory was unmounted, for a minute I thought I had lost everything.

I have have experience with this problem problem several years in mint 19/20/21
but also revers situation happens

steps to reproduce
suspended NB -> connect external monitor -> wake up NB -> black screen, no response crash.tar.gz
but happens also
NB+external monitor -> suspend/sleep -> disconnect monitor -> wake up -> black screen, no response

I found two ways how to recover
disconnect usb-c monitor -> wait until NB goes to sleep -> wake up
or
ctr+alt+F1 -> cinnamon --replace

in my setup is NB powered by standard charger, not from monitor

I'm also experiencing issues with Screensaver (org.cinnamon.ScreenSaver, Linux Mint 22.1), albeit not that catastrophically (yet). Exactly only when I have my second monitor attached to the laptop, when waking up from suspend the login manager will become completely frozen for 10-20 seconds before I can use the laptop again. I can consistently trace this back to the following journal/log entries:

This ALWAYS happens with monitors attached (including the freeze) and NEVER happens without monitors attached.

I've found a bug report on redhat bugzilla, but I have not seen any activity on that in recent time.

I would really appreciate if this bug would not be ignored since it seems to be quite severe.
