You don't backup your container. You backup your container's volume(s). So you can create a bash script that stops your containers, then you can do a rsync, etc. backup your volumes. Then your script can start your containers backup. If your containers don't have a database you might not have to stop them. Most of mine have some database associated with it so I stop the container and have it back up then to avoid database corruption. If you have a synology nas their Active Backup for Business that comes with each synology free can execute pre and post scripts. That's how my docker volumes are backed up. Then you just backup your docker compose files, which are just text files. I actually put all of my docker volumes on a separate volume. So I can replace the OS on the server and my docker volumes stay intact. |
