Exploring Synergies with identifiers.org & Roadmap Discussion #9

Hello Michael,

Thank you for developing the identifiers package—it’s a valuable tool for handling identifiers in a structured way! 🙌

I wanted to respectfully ask if you’ve explored identifiers.org as a potential resource. For background, identifiers.org is a community-driven service focused on persistent identifier resolution, offering features like:

  • A curated registry of standardized prefixes (e.g., doi, taxonomy, ensembl).
  • Programmatic resolution APIs and metadata retrieval.
  • Integration with FAIR data practices and tools like BioThings.

Given the overlap in goals (e.g., validation, normalization, and accessibility), I’m curious:

  • Collaboration Potential: Could identifiers.org’s infrastructure complement or extend the identifiers package’s capabilities?
  • Roadmap Vision: How do you envision the package evolving? Would community partnerships (e.g., with identifiers.org) align with your plans?

This isn’t a suggestion to replace existing work—rather, an invitation to explore synergies that might reduce fragmentation in the ecosystem.

Thank you for your dedication to this project, and I’d love to hear your perspective whenever convenient!
