Voice calling option is greyed out and unclickable in preferances..?

I cannot seem to enable the voice calling option in preferences on my pixel 7 using the newest version of the apk ..

Can anyone help me?

voice calling function does enable via preferences on linux but not on android :(

I suggest that you read this blog post from Mark. He has been (almost) single handedly developing Reticulum as well as several related protocols and applications for several years straight, and is planning to take a much deserved sanity break after completing the Reticulum v1.0.0 release, which he just did.

I cannot give you a time estimate right now because I don't know any more than you do, but know that it is coming.

Hello! I’m just here admiring the progress that has been made on the project. Reference was made to the apk, so I assume we’re talking about the Sideband app. A couple of different things to try as experiments (this is all one huge experiment anyway) are to try installing the sbapp on a computer where call functionality is enabled, then install LXST on another computer (or even the same computer), run rnphone, and call rnphone from the computer version of the Sideband app. It worked for me, and had a nice echo effect, because it was the same computer running both apps. The other thing to try is once you start a conversation with a peer in Sideband on Android, go back one screen, hit the three dots beside the peer’s identifier, hit edit, and enable the ptt button. When you return to the conversation, hold the ptt button, talk, release the ptt button, and the voice message should immediately start playing on the peer device. Almost like Zello, if you are not long-winded. I was pretty impressed with that feature. In some ways, that’s better than a phone conversation anyway!

I also have a preference for codec2 because it’s open source, understandable, and capable of passing through very narrow channels.

The app works perfectly no complaints.. I was just wondering if I was missing something about why it was greyed out in preferences..

Some creative solutions there… haven’t yet composed much of my own work.
If you do get around to trying rnphone from LXST and get an error about a .tostring() attribute, it’s in the SoundCard package. Just replace it with .tobytes() and it should work fine.
