Overview

This issue requests adding Harry Caufield's (@caufieldjh) presentation slides as documentation for the dismech project. The slides should be:

1. Stored in the Monarch Drive (pending confirmation from Harry)
2. Linked at minimum from the README
3. Optionally embedded in the main HTML pages

Current Documentation State

The README currently has:

• Overview of the knowledge base and browsing links
• Technical documentation (schema, validation, QC)
• Contributor onboarding section linking to CONTRIBUTING.md
• Schema documentation links

Gap: No high-level overview presentations or slide decks for quick orientation to the project.

Context: Related Documentation Improvements

This issue is part of a broader documentation enhancement effort. Related issues:

  • Focuses on improving contributor onboarding for agent-assisted curation
  • Proposes updates to README, CONTRIBUTING.md, and CLAUDE.md

Implementation Suggestions

Option 1: Minimal (README link only)

Add a "Presentations" section to README.md:

- [dismech Project Overview](link-to-slides) - High-level introduction to the knowledge base structure and curation workflow

Pros: Quick, low maintenance
Cons: Requires external hosting, slides may become outdated

Option 2: Embedded in Generated HTML

Integrate slides into the main landing page at pages/index.html:

• Could use reveal.js, Google Slides embed, or PDF.js
• Provides seamless user experience for visitors browsing the KB
• Would require updates to the rendering pipeline

Pros: Professional presentation, integrated experience
Cons: Higher implementation effort, potential maintenance burden

Option 3: Documentation Site Section

Create a docs/ folder with:

• docs/overview-slides.md (exported slide content in Markdown)
• Link from README and generated HTML

Pros: Version-controlled, searchable, mobile-friendly
Cons: Requires converting slides to Markdown format

Recommended Approach

Start with Option 1 (README link) to unblock quickly, then evaluate Option 2/3 based on:

• How frequently slides are updated
• Whether other presentation materials emerge
• User feedback on documentation needs

Action Items

1. @caufieldjh: Confirm slides are uploaded to Monarch Drive and provide sharing link
2. @nlharris or @caufieldjh: Add link to README in "Presentations" or "Resources" section
3. (Optional, later): Evaluate embedding slides in generated HTML based on usage patterns
