Is it possible to utilize offline maps?

Sometimes I am without cell phone data signal and I was wondering if it is possible to download maps ahead of time? If I use Google Maps, will it utilize downloaded Google Maps? I can download OSM maps but I don't know how to get the app to use downloaded maps. Thanks.

That is a good question and I can understand when that would be useful. Unfortunately, my guess would be, that even when compiling the app to use Google Maps, probably it is not possible to pre-download a map area. Most likely that would require implementing some additional logic to the code.

There is some limited amount of caching in the map views, so if you zoom around on the area of interest before going there, there could be a chance of that area still lying in the cache, but that is certainly not a fool-proof solution.

I personally do not have any available time to look into how to get this supported. If you or anyone else figure out how to add the necessary code, I can certainly review and help merge any pull-requests for that.
