What is animal anatomy?
Animal anatomy is the scientific study of the structure of animal bodies, including bones, muscles, organs, and systems, and how they are arranged.
In simple words: It’s the map of an animal’s body.
Why is animal anatomy important for Vets?
Animal anatomy is essential because it helps vets:
• Diagnose correctly - Understanding exactly where an organ, bone, or nerve is helps in accurate diagnosis.
• Perform surgeries safely - Surgeons rely on precise anatomical knowledge to avoid nerve damage, blood vessels, and critical organs.
• Explain conditions to pet parents - Visual anatomical diagrams make it easier to explain fractures, infections, swelling, organ issues, etc.
• Prescribe correct treatments -Some medicines depend on anatomy, e.g., eye drops, topical ointments, wound care based on body region.
• Handle multi-species care - Dogs, cats, and horses all have different anatomical structures.
How can we design an “animal anatomy” exhibit for the Yosemite Crew?
You can design it as a visual interactive component.
Design Approach (Clean + PMS-Friendly)
a. Species list
Dog
Cat
Horse
b. Body system layers
Each species opens into categories:
Skeletal
Muscular
Digestive
Respiratory
Nervous
Reproductive
Urinary
Integumentary (skin)
Lymphatic
Endocrine
c. Interactive body map
When a vet clicks a region on the anatomy diagram:
Pop-up shows: Name of body part + description
Option to “Add to Prescription Notes”
Option to mark the area of pain/swelling
d. Quick-select tags
Example tags:
“Left Hind Leg”
“Right Forelimb”
“Thoracic Region”
“Lumbosacral Area”
“Cervical Spine (C1–C7)”
These get auto-inserted into medical notes or prescriptions.
Where should we place “animal anatomy” in Yosemite Crew?
You can integrate it at 3 key touchpoints:
During prescription writing
Place a small “Body Area Picker” inside the prescription screen:
Location: Right side or bottom near "Add Symptoms" or "Diagnosis".
Button name: “Select Body Region” or “Pick Anatomical Area”
Vet clicks → small modal opens → chooses species → taps anatomical region → text auto-adds:
Example auto-filled line:
“Wound observed in the Left Thoracic Limb (Proximal) area.”
In examination / SOAP notes
During physical exam:
Section: “Physical Examination → Anatomy Selector”
Vet can mark:
Swelling
Pain
Wound
Fracture
Lump
Infection area
The selected region appears as a tag in the exam notes.
In medical records / companion profile
A tab called:
“Anatomy & Conditions”
Shows:
Historical body areas marked
Previous injuries
Surgical zones
Chronic pain areas
Visual map with flagged points.
What references can be used to design the anatomy?

Use medical-standard veterinary references:
Trusted veterinary anatomy sources
Miller’s Anatomy of the Dog
Dyce, Sack & Wensing's Textbook of Veterinary Anatomy
Sisson and Grossman’s Anatomy of Domestic Animals
Anatomy apps like Complete Anatomy (for humans, but a visual style reference)
AVMA & WSAVA guidelines
Google’s open 3D animal anatomy models (for visual inspiration)
Graphic Style Inspirations
Apple Health illustrations
VetBlue / IDEXX modern minimal diagrams
Flat 3D style icons
Human anatomy apps visual layering.
How can we make it simple & useful (UX)?
Design style for Yosemite Crew
Clean line-art illustrations
Soft gradients matching your brand palette
Quick taps, no heavy details
Small modal windows (no large canvases)
Smart suggestions (e.g., “Common cat injury areas”)
Micro-Interactions
Hover highlights region
Tap → label appears
Tag automatically inserts into notes
