OwnTracks managed backend: HiveMQ, EMQX, something else?

I don't feel like running and maintaining my own backend for OwnTracks so I've opted-in for MQTT with encryption (thank you OwnTracks for supporting both!).

I used to use HiveMQ to share location with my family however location updates kept getting stuck regularly until the I stop the app and start it again. Recently I switched to EMQX because it has better tooling for monitoring. I planned to use it in order to pinpoint an issue in OwnTracks so that it could be fixed. The problem I'm facing is that it doesn't seem to get stuck anymore.

What do you all use as a backend for OwnTracks? Does anyone use MQTT? What is your experience?
