Grafana is unable to list hostnames only IPs

Problem Statement

I’m using the Windows Exporter on several hosts and have explicitly set externalLabels in my Prometheus scrape configuration. However, the Windows Exporter UI and metrics still only show the host’s IP address (e.g., 123.456.123.456:9182) instead of the hostname (e.g., windows_host:9182) or any readable Windows machine name.

Is there an additional configuration step required on the Windows Exporter side to make it report or expose the hostname instead of the IP address?

Sorry, my mistake. The Grafana dashboard was only able to display my windows hosts with IPADDRESS:PORT where as my linux hosts were displayed with their hostname.

It depends on your scrape config. Windows_exporter does not add such instance labels by default.
