how do i properly use this?

this is nor a bug or a issue but rather than me not being able to understand the right way to use this program. ive been trying to make a simple macro and what i do is i record what i want the macro to be, then i click tools > generate source (as said on the wiki), then i compile the source code, and add the compiled action as a task, but i cannot seem to find a proper way to actually play the task. first i tried the " Run/Stop compiled action" hotkey but that doesnt work because then i get the error "WARNING: No compiled action in memory". then i tried adding a activation hotkey for my task, but that doesnt really work either (maybe its the way i set up this hotkey? i dont know)

i hope somebody can help me clear this up because the wiki kinda lost me

also not sure if this is worth mentioning but i went on https://keyboardchecker.com/ and after running the task i saw that the buttons were never released (as if they didnt properly click even though i pressed them down normally when recording). i can send my .manualbuild file for this task if anybody wants to look at that too.

Hello,

If you want to play the task without any shortcut, then you can use this button to play the selected task directly.

Otherwise, with the screenshot you showed, you're assigning the key chain numpad '.' to the task. You need to click save so that the task activation is saved first. Then the next time you press numpad '.' the task will be executed.

The recording should contain both key presses and key releases, so it's definitely unusual to see that keys are never released. If you send me your .manualbuild, I can definitely take a look.

i did click save when i was assigning the key chain. and it did work sometimes, but turning it off did not work any of the times and at one point i just had to turn off my computer. here is my .manualbuild file for the task i am trying to do. i would really like to have a hotkey to play / stop the task i am trying to do (kinda like tinytask where you have a playback hotkey that starts or stops the current task)

To stop the task execution, you need to enable this setting (Halt task by ESC), then whenever you press escape it will stop the current task execution.

I'm not sure you say it works only "sometimes". Have you tried recording a simple short task and replay to see if the trigger hotkey can work consistently?

I looked at the manualbuild file. It has the key release activity so it's strange that the key is not released. Can you let me know which specific key was not released?

Also, I'd recommend enabling this "Record mouse click only" setting if you don't care about mouse movement. It'll make the recording simpler and the mouse doesn't move around.

Okay thank you. i will try the halt tasks with esc thing and see if that fixes one of my issues but what about the playback hotkey? was it right the way i configured it?. i will try to send a picture here again when im home in around 20 minutes.

well now i just came across an even weirder bug... first of all, my playback hotkey did work yes. and pressing ESC did cancel it. but after pressing ESC to cancel it my ESC button turned into the windows button and another thing was that i couldnt alt+tab... i fixed it by MANUALLY going into tools > halt all tasks. apart from that i think everything is fine now? but i would really like to fix that glitch lol.

EDIT: basically my whole keyboard and mouse stop working and my keyboard seems to be in some type of mode where the windows key is being infinitely pressed? for example when i clicked S it tried saving this web page or when i clicked W it tried closing this tab (win + {key} shortcuts)

sorry if im being spammy right now, but i recorded a video of whats happening (i added a keyboard thingy to my OBS so you can see exactly what keys are being pressed). to correct myself, manually halting all tasks does NOT work but i figured out myself in the video that what probably would work is clicking the buttons that arent getting released to release them myself, which as you can see at the end did work. i couldnt upload the video here on github so it has to go on google drive

Hi, sorry for the late response. I have been busy.

Halting task would work if it's a task being executed. I've done a quick test on 5.7.1 and 5.7.2 and looks like it's still working.
When ESC works to halt the task, you should see something about "interrupted" in the log window like the following

java.lang.InterruptedException: sleep interrupted
INFO: Interrupting execution thread Thread

If you don't see it then perhaps the settings is disabled? Again, it's this setting here (with the red arrow).

For the stuck key, I can't be sure what the problem is. One possible guess is that if you halt the task, in between key press and key release, the button is never released and therefore appears to be stuck. Can you try reproducing the issue on a shorter task (with just 1 key press)?

this is what comes in my console after i halt the task, and yes the task DOES stop but the thing is the button release. but if im going to be completely honest now that i found out that i only have to click the keys that arent being released after halting and everything is fine again, i can live with it. but still i think this should be fixed some day...

nevermind, it doesnt work at all. no matter what i do. i tried using my recorded task today and it SOMEHOW pressed windows while i wasnt looking and everything messed up. i have no clue what to do anymore to make this work

Hello, I moved so I got lost in other things and took so long to response. Hopefully you found something working for your use case.

From my own experience, It's important to keep the recording short so you can reproduce the issue and understand all the actions involved. It's also good to ignore mouse movements to keep the generated code small.

You can also try go into the UI and find the place where it presses the window button and remove the window press/remove to see if it fixes the problem. Something like these steps with the red arrows.
