Media Assets Library DB Reload

Hi,

I’m using Wiki.js v2 with Git as the storage backend.

I regularly use Git from my local machine to bulk upload pages and related images. Images are placed in the dedicated media folder, then Wiki syncs correctly from my commits. This workflow has worked fine multiple times.

What happened

Recently, I needed to reorganize some media that my colleagues had uploaded directly into the root media folder (I later learned I can prevent uploads to root).

I moved images and folders using Git (commit + sync), but after syncing:

• The Media Assets section in Wiki.js was not updated
• It still shows:
  • Images that were deleted
  • Deleted subfolders
• It does not show:
  • New folders
  • Moved images

Current behavior

• If I try to delete one of these “ghost” images from Media Assets, I get an error saying the file does not exist, but after that the image is removed from the DB.
• I don’t understand whether it’s possible to delete folders from Media Assets at all — is this supported?
• I tried recreating a folder with the exact same path as one imported via Git, but it still does not show the folder or its images in Media Assets.
• Wiki pages that reference images using the Git-created paths render correctly, even when those paths don’t exist in the Media Assets DB.

What I tried

• Clear Cache
• Purge Local Repository
• Rebuild Tree

None of these updated the Media Assets DB.

Environment

• Wiki.js version: 2.5.311 (updated before performing these operations)
• Storage: Git
• Database: PostgreSQL

Questions

1. Is there a supported way to refresh or rebuild the Media Assets database from the Git repository?
2. Is deleting media folders from Media Assets supported?
3. Is this a known limitation or bug when using Git as the storage backend?
