I did these steps

In Xcode, navigate to project's Build Settings
Search for "storyboard"
Remove "Main" from all three entries under "AppKit Main Storyboard File Base Name":
Main entry
Debug configuration
Release configuration

and the app is working in the background.

but in setting, the extension option is invisible. and not really functional after turning on the option

any one know how to fix this issue?

It is probably the same issue as described here (#2)

I made a quick .gif - in case you don't find the property to edit:

After you change this (the build settings auto apply...) - you can proceed with the instructions of the projects readme, now "MigrationsSync" (or whatever you chose as a name) will show up in the File Providers Extension View.

Adding my personal experience here too - after removing the "Main" from the Storyboard plist, I get the same "blank" file provider extension option, and the application does not properly set the folder icon

@alalalex-m and @benwwalker1, I've just successfully created a new folder icon (macOS 15.6) following my instructions in #2

That's also the same manner as demonstrated in the video that @monkeyphantor recorded for you.

It seems like the "name" doesn't show up on initial creation. You can fix this by:

1. Create only one app at once. You will see why this is important at Step 5.
2. Move the app to the Applications folder before starting
3. Start the app
4. Navigate to System Settings --> General --> Login Items & Extensions --> File Providers
5. There you will find an empty row, probably at the very top OR the very bottom.
   THAT'S YOUR APP!
   Toggle the permission to ON, even if it's blank at the moment.
   Because it's blank, that's exactly why you only created one app (otherwise all other apps would overwrite and fight each other, and only the latest app you've opened would show under that screen - same name --> they clash).
6. Add it to login items under a big list at System Settings --> General --> Login Items & Extensions.
7. Reboot
8. Mount the folder to the sidebar. And you will see it will work.
9. For an extra piece of mind, go back to "File providers" and you will see it shows up correctly.
