Describe the update

A new version of the SWORD database came out (v17b) which is the version used for the official Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) mission, making this update especially pertinent. Note, the update changes unique river reach and node id.

o October 2024
o Topological updates to ensure consistency.
o Distance from outlet recalculation based on shortest paths between outlets and headwaters.
o New variables for nodes and reaches: “path_freq”, “path_order”, “path_segs”, “main_side”,
“stream_order”, “end_reach”,” network”.
o Improved geometry for reach shapefiles.
o Additional channels added for improved network connectivity.
o New reach and node ids that better reflect the improved topology.
o Corrected node lengths to match reach lengths when summed.

o Type change for 1662 reaches and associated nodes globally.
o Updates to reach and node lengths and distance from outlet to correct bug in node length
calculation in select reaches (<2% globally).
