copy/paste in the search, row numbers, and long cell values

Hi!

I'm using visidata installed inside WSL on my Windows machine, and I struggle with two things.

1. How can I copy a cell value and paste it inside the search so I can modify the value and search with it?
2. How can I view the row numbers?
3. For cells that contain a very long value, is there a way to view all the content of the cell in a word wrap view, maybe in a separate window or something?

1. To copy the current cell into your terminal buffer, use syscopy-cell, bound to zY. Use the latest develop branch of Visidata, (v3.2dev). It has a fix for WSL clipboard handling, which I think may have been failing in Visidata v3.1.1.
   To paste, use the standard paste method for the Windows terminal. I'm not a Windows user, so I don't know what that is. A quick search suggests it may be a right click, and that you can possibly change a setting to allow Ctrl+Shift+V for pasting.
2. User-visible row numbers are not a standard feature of Visidata. You can get something like a row number by pressing i (addcol-incr) and reading the numbers in the new column. But those numbers are static. Once you insert and delete rows, they will not indicate row numbers accurately any more.
3. To open the current cell in an editor, use ^O (sysopen-cell) . It opens whatever editor is in the environment variable $EDITOR. If you want to try staying in visidata, use v (toggle-multiline) to show more lines at once for the current row. The default is 4 lines, but you can change the value options.default_height in your .visidatarc. But Visidata does not currently wrap wide Unicode characters properly. If your text has those characters, you're better off opening an editor with ^O.

If you want to see the current row number in the status line, you can try something like this in your .visidatarc:

Thanks for the swift response!!

1. The v3.2dev version resolves the issue with WSL. Only one thing, make sure that the "Use Ctrl+Shift+C/V as copy and paste" is enabled from the console properties.
   

2. I have tried the function you suggested, but it didn't work. Maybe we can request this as a feature. It's really helpful, especially for those who use this tool for threat hunting like myself, and I want to know how many rows I still need to analyze, for example.

3. I didn't know about the v shortcut. It's very helpful.

Maybe this will serve your purpose, a percentage indicator for the current row, as a % of the total number of rows, like what vim has. It's what I use in my .visidatarc. Credit to @saulpw and @ghost from a few years ago who made the original versions.
