.meta files are required to process files correctly. It prevents the duplicated file names and stores some additional data per file. What is your issue about this files? Currently you can create own DiskUploadStorage and store these meta files differently or leave empty related methods. |

It is best to set a switch that can upload files without uploading.mate files. Because some users don't need it. For performance or to save storage space. |

While saving 200–300 bytes per file might sound beneficial, the overall impact is minimal when you consider the scale. For example, with our current structure, 1 KB equals about 3 meta files (with default metadata configuration), 1 MB equals roughly 1,024 files, and 1 GB translates to more than 1 million files. In practical terms, the total storage saved (about 1 GB at the gigabyte level) is not significant relative to stored files. The minor size of each meta file does not notably affect performance. The real challenge arises when many files are stored in a single directory without proper management. Our system, Serenity, addresses this by distributing files across multiple directories, ensuring optimal performance. Moreover, the most significant performance gains come from the hardware. SSDs, dedicated server storage, or cloud solutions.
Meta files are critical as they record which file is associated with which table, including details like the original file name and record ID. This metadata is essential for accurately linking files to their corresponding data, especially when files are moved. When the need arises, having them available becomes absolutely essential.
You need to define the "best" to say it is the best. Our decision to include them is based on proven customer requirements and our experience. However, serenity is flexible; you’re welcome to modify or create your own DiskUploadStorage implementation to bypass the generation of meta files if that better suits your needs. |
