Create directories on a trial/free account?

I'm a new 'free/trial' user and I can't seem to initiate the directories feature 'naturally'.

I made a directory shop-dir, then attempted to test it on a few website forms, using shop-dir/shopname@aleeas.com as the email address.

1. I have tried all three separators /, #, + and even deleted a few custom aliases to make room for the new ones. I still have yet to receive any of the verification emails from the websites I have tried this on.
2. I went further in my troubleshooting and tested out the feature by sending the email myself and this did initiate the alias.
3. I then had the verification emails resent to now 'existing alias' and have still failed to receive any emails.

What am I doing wrong or misunderstanding? If anyone could enlighten me, I'd really appreciate it.

Update on this.

A day or so later 2 of the aliases activated. This happened without me ever receiving a verification email link from the stores. It is hard to say really what the issue is here. Whether it is something related the online stores' sign up policy itself specifically, which causes a delay or outright rejects sending an email without actually informing you, I don't know. In any case, the simplelogin.io directory > alias service does seem to be working, it just may be a little unpredictable depending on the store.
