Using pytest-xdist with argument "-n auto" causes internal error #233

What steps will reproduce the problem?
Configure unittest plugin to use Spyder and specify a directory containing appropriate tests.
Set as command line argument: -n auto
Result is that an internal error is reported on every test.
Tests run fine when command line argument field is blank. Tests run fine with -n auto when running Python from Unix command line.
