Radxa Zero 2 Pro (Amlogic A311D) Documentation

Hello, was reading through the documentation for the Radxa Zero2 Pro (Amlogic A311D) for installing (an OS?) onto the onboard eMMC here https://docs.radxa.com/en/zero/zero2pro/low-level-dev/install-os-on-emmc?host_os=Linux%2FMacOS&nix=Linux. I see that boot-g12.py is used to "Flash the firmware" in the documentation. I was curious what boot-g12.py does, that a dd of the bin file to the USB -> eMMC wouldn't do. I've been trying to understand this for the 8 months how this works, so your guidance would be appreciated. <3
