Hello everyone,

Would it make sense to create a LinkML schema for the Camtrap DP model?

With LinkML, the model could be defined once and various formats could be generated from it. This could be a great way to improve interoperability and make the model more reusable across different tools and ecosystems when importing/exporting data as camtrap dp.

The existing json schema files could then be generated from the linkml schema.

Would there be interest for this ?

Hi @dnlbauer, thanks for the suggestion! I'm not familiar with LinkML.

At the moment, I don't think we need it for Camtrap DP. Maintaining the standard in JSON files currently has the advantage that what you see is what you get, i.e. the schemas as they are maintained are also what gets loaded by software. That allows contributors to edit the JSON files (e.g. in their branch, in a browser window, without running a build script) and then load them immediately for testing.

Longer term, it might be a good fit, especially if we want to store our definitions for terms once and then build the model using those. That approach might currently be a good fit for Darwin Core Data Package, so I'm tagging @tucotuco and @timrobertson100. John, if you're interested in maintaining the Darwin Core terms in once place (not a database) and building the different tables from there, see Link ML: it might be a good fit.
