Uploading audio files with iOS Safari doesn't work

Describe the bug
If trying to upload an audio file to the audio encoder using iOS (tried Safari, Chrome, Edge and Opera), the page reloads shortly after starting the upload

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Go to 'Audio Encoder'
2. Choose file
3. Click Upload
4. Page reloads

Expected behavior
Uploading works and the encoding starts

• Version: 0.6.4
• Docker (always latest)
• Docker image used: ghcr.io/toniebox-reverse-engineering/teddycloud:latest

Seems to work.

But I noticed a new issue:
The conversion worked but the "working" window persists. When changing the tab or putting safari in background "network error" appears.

thats most propably a apple related general problem. on safari / webkit (which use all of the mentioned browser on apple systems) is very specific and hard to debug if you don't have a mac.

as i do not have a mac, i can not do further investigations here...

Seems to be the case. I've tried Firefox 145 on my iPhone, which is using Firefox' engine, not Apples WebKit, and it work.

And while testing, I've noticed that the name of the .taf isn't filled automatically as it does on 0.6.4.

But this issue is closed

Name should be automatically be filled if one file is decoded only. That was a change. In 0.6.4 it was always set with I think the first file.

Somehow it stopped working on all iOS browsers (tested on Safari, Firefox, Chrome, Edge, Opera, Orion, Brave - all on iOS 26.2).
Upload worked before, now the encoder page just reloads, that’s it.

It’s a big bummer, since sometimes I don’t have the time to go to the pc. Getting and uploading files on mobile is pretty handy.

Maybe a drop-in directory via SMB would be a nice idea as well.

When I tried it today I was running 0.6.5, then I updated to 0.6.6 and also tried development build.

Hm, that’s really strange. On your screenshot the files are just 10MB.
So I’ve tried a smaller file, than my 75MB file before.
A 17MB sized file worked fine. Then I’ve tried a 44.5MB file, error appeared again. Page reloaded. Tried on Safari, Firefox, Opera and Edge.
All files are working mp3 files.

So maybe the file size is the issue there?

Oh, on safari I got the network error again with 0.6.6, only on the encoder page.

Also uploading a .taf file directly to the library doesn’t seem to work on Safari for me, while using Firefox works.

Just started to asked what states the browser dev mode console and then it come to my mind again that’s really fucked up with iOS to debug this things as they force you to use a Mac for that.

Yes, this is a real bummer. I don’t have a Mac either. Theoretically it’s possible to run MacOS in a VM but it’s sluggish.

I just find it very strange that it seems that there’s a size limit.
I don’t know how this is implemented. When I upload things to other websites and local services via browser I don’t have any issues with this - Nextcloud for example.

Edit:
iOS Chrome has basic js debugging. When using the browser based encoding, I get this in the debugging before the browser shows "site couldn't be opened":

When using the server based encoding I don't get any errors:

As it seems there's a way to debug Safari with Linux. I'll try it when I find some time. Maybe this shows more.

For now I'll need to convert the files on my home server using cli and python and then copy it manually to the container data location.

Edit 2:
Tried it, but under Windows 11 because the Linux version didn't download the necessary binary.
Debugging console works but gives the same output as iOS Chrome. No errors at all. I don't know if this is related to the debugging method or if there aren't any errors printed to the console:

The docker log doesn't show anything as well.

I tried it again under Windows, both server based and browser based encoding work fine there using Firefox and Edge.
