How to stop the motor

I run the go motor example c++ program in this repo and it worked great. However, I could not stop the motor, even when I ctrl-c the program. The only thing I can do is to unplug the power, however, the next time I turn on the power, the motor was running again. How can I stop the motor? Also programmingly, how I can stop the motor?
