After update to Claude 1.0.3218 (8679c9) 2026-01-12T16:53:34.000Z, compaction no longer works when using Desktop Commander MCP

Compaction process had been running.

After update, it no longer runs - instead I've reverted to seeing:

Claude has hit the maximum length for this conversation

This only happens when I use Desktop Commander MCP, not in vanilla Claude.

But does it work without it?
I did notice that it is not working anymore, at least sometimes.
But I suspect it has to do with CoWork launch and spike in usage.
They have compute capacity issue.

I suspect it will be back in a week.
