Kookie is a secure, local-first, encrypted secret manager designed for developers. It helps you safely store your sensitive information, like passwords and tokens, right on your device.
To get Kookie, visit the Releases page to download the version that suits your operating system:
Kookie works on both Unix-based systems (like Linux and macOS) and Windows. Hereβs what you need:
- Operating Systems:
- Windows 10 or later
- macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) or later
- Any Linux distribution with a recent kernel
- Memory: At least 2GB of RAM
- Disk Space: 50MB free space for installation
- Internet Connection: Required for downloading and updating the software
- Visit the Releases page.
- Download the latest
.exefile. - Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation.
- Follow the prompts to complete the installation.
- Go to the Releases page.
- Download the latest
.dmgfile. - Open the downloaded file and drag Kookie into your Applications folder.
- Launch Kookie from your Applications.

.tar.gzfile. -
Extract the file using the command:
tar -xvzf kookie-cli-*.tar.gz -
Move into the extracted directory:
cd kookie-cli-*

Run the program:
./kookie
Once installed, you can start using Kookie to manage your secrets.

Launch the application.

Add a new secret:
- Click on the βAdd Secretβ button.
- Enter a name for your secret.
- Provide the sensitive information (like a password).
- Click βSave.β

Retrieve a secret:
- Select the secret from the list.
- Click βViewβ to see the stored information.

Delete a secret:
- Select the secret you wish to remove.
- Click βDeleteβ and confirm your choice.
Kookie ensures your secrets remain secure through:
- Encryption: Kookie uses AES-GCM for strong encryption of your data.
- Storage: Your secrets are saved locally, not on the cloud.
- Password Protection: Secure your Kookie app with a password to safeguard access.
