WhatsApp Export Guide

This is a guide on how to get the textual information from a Whatsapp data export as a .txt file, for personal use with GCSearch. NOTE: The screenshots provided in this guide are for iOS, but should work similarly in Android devices as well.

1. Open Whatsapp on your phone and in the bottom right, navigate to the Settings tab, and then click on Chats

2. Click on the Export chat option

• The following menu will show you all your Whatsapp chats, both individual and group chats. Tap on the chat you want to export and then the following option will appear at the bottom:

• Selecting Attach Media will include the shared media such as photos and videos in the exported file. Selecting Without Media will export only a text file with the chat log and the messages that include non-text media in their content will show as "(media type) omitted"

3. After selecting either option, Whatsapp will prepare the chat export in a ZIP file for you to download onto your device or open in another application for transfer purposes, as you can see for example in iOS devices below:
