GreekDraCor

Ancient Greek drama. 39 plays in TEI P5 format, adapted from the Perseus Digital Library, first converted to DraCor format in May 2019. Licenced under CC BY-SA 3.0 US. Menander's comedy “Dyskolos” derived from Wikisource, licenced under CC BY-SA 3.0.

The corpus is maintained by Julia Jennifer Beine (University of Würzburg) and Frank Fischer (Freie Universität Berlin).

Update: This corpus will be completely rebooted in 2026, also adding the latest versions from the PDL.

Content: 7 plays by Aeschylus, 8 by Sophocles, 13 by Euripides, 11 by Aristophanes, 1 by Menander.

Betacode to Unicode conversion done with betacode 0.2.

Thanks to Dmitry S. Krylov for the metric markup (June 2020).

Missing plays

The Greek Drama section of Perseus features more plays by Euripides. They are from an edition that does not seem to be in the public domain:

  • Euripides, with an English translation by David Kovacs. Cambridge. Harvard University Press. Forthcoming (1994?).
    • Alcestis. Andromache. Cyclops. Heracleidae. Hippolytus. Medea.

These plays are not in the downloadable set of Greek plays. We are ready to add them to the Greek Drama Corpus as soon as the copyright situation is clarified.
